REINVENTING CARVING: KORUA

REINVENTING CARVING: KORUA

Korua Shapes: Bringing Carving Back from the Dead

Let’s be real—carving used to be the thing in snowboarding. Then freestyle took over, and turning became something you only did to get to the next jump. But thankfully, Korua Shapes showed up and flipped the script. These guys didn’t just bring carving back—they reinvented it.

Why Korua?

Korua isn’t your typical board brand. They make directional shapes that look more like surfboards than your usual twin-tip park deck. Long noses, deep sidecuts, tons of taper—these boards are all about turning. And not just turning… carving. Big, surfy, laid-out turns that put GS skiers to shame.

Their boards don’t just ride well—they change how you see the mountain.

My Day at Killington

I had the chance to demo just about every Korua board this spring at Killington, VT, and it was honestly one of the best days I’ve had on snow. The sun was out, the snow was soft, and I was riding with some homies from Darkside Snowboards—good vibes all around. Killington on a good spring day hits different.

As soon as I dropped in on a Korua Dart, it just clicked. Smooth edge-to-edge transitions, insane grip, and a flowy, almost meditative feel. I haven’t been this hyped on a snowboard brand since the first time I tried 3BT from Bataleon years ago. Korua gave me that same spark—the feeling that snowboarding still has new things to offer.

Yearning for Turning

If you haven’t watched Korua’s Yearning for Turning video series, do yourself a favor. It’s like ASMR for snowboarders. Just beautiful carving in black and white, no gimmicks, no park—just pure riding. It’ll make you want to wax your board and go hunt for perfect corduroy.

Why It Matters

Korua is doing something rare—they’re inspiring people to fall in love with turning again. Not with flashy tricks or loud graphics, but with shape, style, and soul. In a sport that sometimes takes itself too seriously, Korua is a reminder that snowboarding is supposed to be fun.

So next time you're out there, skip the park lap. Lay into an edge, draw a deep line, and feel the stoke that comes from a perfect carve.

Carving is back. Thank Korua.
